Dr Karl Brunnemann was a German historian of the French Revolution, of whom little is now reliably known beyond the work itself. His Maximilien Robespierre, a sympathetic German-language study of the Incorruptible, was translated into French and published by Péguy as Quinzaine V-8 (1904) — at a moment when the Cahiers were giving particular attention to the historical scholarship of the Revolution and to the rehabilitation of its most contested figures.
