L'Ordination

Julien Benda

1911–1913

Julien Benda’s two-part novel L’Ordination — followed in series XIV by La Chute — is the story of a young intellectual ordained into the secular priesthood of letters. Benda, later famous for La Trahison des clercs, was at this point one of the Cahiers’ most distinctive prose voices, and Péguy gave the work two full cahiers to itself.
